OM Film Lab currently supports iPhone and iPad running iOS or iPadOS 16.4 or later. Android is planned for a future release, and existing users will be able to use the same account when it arrives.

OM Film Lab is currently available in App Store regions outside Europe. European availability is planned after the required business setup is complete.

OM Film Lab is made exclusively for Olympus and OM System cameras. Other camera brands are not currently supported.

Yes. An account is required to use OM Film Lab and helps us understand active usage so we can improve the app. You can sign in with Apple, Google, or an email one-time password (OTP).

Your first sign-in requires internet access. After that, recipes and core features work offline because recipe data is stored on your device. Paid-account changes sync when Wi-Fi returns, camera import uses the camera's local Wi-Fi, and WebDAV backup requires a connection.

The Creative Dial is OM Film Lab's core discovery tool. Move through different visual qualities and watch the selected image change immediately. When the mood feels right, choose it and the app recommends the closest compatible, field-tested recipe.

There are currently two. Original controls warmth, contrast, and saturation. Black & White controls the colour filter from sepia to cold, contrast, and grain. More Creative Dials will be added in future.

No. It uses a matching algorithm to find the existing recipe nearest to your chosen mood. Every official recipe is field-tested before it enters OM Film Lab.

An official recipe is a distinct SOOC (straight-out-of-camera) look reviewed by an OM Film Lab team member experienced in Olympus and OM System photography. It must be useful, field-tested, and not duplicate an existing recipe.

Not yet. Community submissions and curation are planned as part of a future social system.

OM Film Lab shows compatibility for the camera models in your Backpack. Each recipe detail page also includes field notes, suitable scenes, complete settings, example images, and camera compatibility.

Traditional search is not currently included. Recipe discovery is intentionally led by the Creative Dial to keep it random and surprising. Favourite recipes you want to find quickly later.

A recipe provides a colour foundation that should remain close to its intended look, but the final photograph still depends on the real light and your exposure choices, including aperture, shutter speed, ISO, metering, and white balance.

Yes. Add supported camera bodies to your in-app Backpack and switch between them when checking recipes and saved camera slots. The free tier includes one Backpack item; lifetime access unlocks more.

Not currently. You must enter the displayed settings and save the recipe to your camera manually. Automatic transfer may be possible for the OM-3 and is planned for future development.

Slot Dial records which recipes you have saved to your camera's C1-C4 or MySet positions, so you do not have to remember them. A favourite only bookmarks a recipe for quick access. You manually update Slot Dial whenever you replace a preset on the camera.

For the first connection, open the camera's Wi-Fi QR-code screen and scan it with OM Film Lab. Later, enable Wi-Fi on the linked camera and open camera Wi-Fi inside the app; OM Film Lab will reconnect automatically.

The app hides camera Wi-Fi controls for models without that feature. You can still use the rest of OM Film Lab and import JPEG images through the native photo library instead.

Import JPEG images from a linked camera over Wi-Fi or from the native photo library. RAW files and Live Photos are not stored in OM Film Lab. Camera Wi-Fi import also lets you choose the imported resolution.

Yes. Available EXIF information—including camera, lens, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, focal length, capture date, and GPS—is preserved and displayed in the photo information sheet.

OM Film Lab first reads GPS information already present in the image. If none exists and you grant permission, it can use the phone's current location. You can also change the location manually.

When importing, the app asks which recipe you used. Your photographs can then appear with their recipe and location in standard Gallery, Calendar, Map, and Canvas views. Canvas uses an algorithmic photo wall to mix highlights from older and newer images without chronological order.

Deleting it removes the local OM Film Lab copy and its synced metadata. If WebDAV backup is enabled, that backup is deleted too. An original imported from Apple Photos remains untouched.

Yes. Exported photographs preserve their JPEG resolution, EXIF information, recipe attribution, and updated location. You can also share a Recipe Card containing the recipe name, an image, and your username.

OM Film Lab is free to download. The free tier includes Creative Dial, official recipes, one Backpack item, up to two favourite recipes, fewer camera Slot Dials than paid access, and JPEG import from a camera over Wi-Fi or the native photo library.

The USD $20 one-time purchase includes every free feature plus WebDAV backup, all available Slot Dials, unlimited favourite recipes, Custom Recipes, multi-device data sync, and future non-subscription features.

There is currently no subscription—only the one-time lifetime purchase. A future social system may require a separate subscription because it creates continuing monthly server costs; those social features would not be included in lifetime access.

Yes. Lifetime access is linked to your OM Film Lab sign-in account and works on multiple iPhones and iPads. The same account, entitlement, and synced data will work on Android when that version launches.

All refund requests must go through Apple's App Store refund process. OM Film Lab cannot issue an App Store refund directly.

Free accounts store only profile information on the server. Lifetime accounts sync Backpack cameras, favourites, Custom Recipes, Slot Dials, and gallery metadata. If two devices edit the same record offline, the most recently updated version wins when they reconnect.

Free-tier Backpack, favourites, Slot Dials, and gallery data are stored only on that device. Deleting or reinstalling OM Film Lab permanently removes them.

Lifetime users can connect a compatible WebDAV service such as Koofr by entering its server URL, their login name or email, and an app-specific password generated by the provider.

Only in the device's secure keychain. OM Film Lab never stores them on its server, so you must enter them again on a new device or whenever the provider password changes.

JPEGs imported into the OM Film Lab gallery—from camera Wi-Fi or the native photo library—can be backed up. Enable automatic backup in Settings; each image shows its backup status.

Sign in to restore lifetime-account metadata, then reconnect the same WebDAV server to recover backed-up JPEGs. If the app cannot connect, it shows an error and asks you to enter the WebDAV information again.

Yes, especially after purchasing lifetime access. Supabase may link providers that return the same verified email, but Sign in with Apple's Hide My Email can create a separate account. OM Film Lab does not currently merge accounts or transfer entitlements between logins.

Delete your account from Profile to permanently remove its profile, synced app data, and lifetime entitlement. That purchase cannot be restored to a new account. Files on your independently controlled WebDAV server remain there after account deletion.

For lifetime users, OM Film Lab syncs gallery metadata such as location, capture date, and associated recipe—but never the photograph itself. This metadata supports app improvement, photography-pattern insights, and future gamification. It currently cannot be disabled independently of paid-account sync.

No. OM Film Lab does not sell user data or use it for advertising. Deleting a gallery photograph also deletes its synced metadata from OM Film Lab's server.

Features may request Photos, Camera, Location, and Local Network access. The app can still open if you decline, but the related features may not work. Permissions can be changed later in iOS Settings. OM Film Lab does not currently send push notifications.

The mobile app currently supports English and Chinese and automatically follows the iPhone or iPad system language.

Lifetime users can use the question form inside the app. Other users can email byatpical@gmail.com. Please allow up to seven days for a response.
